Karoline Stephany Katus and Diedra Nicole Nelson were married Sept. 16 at the beachside home of Julie Rice and Spencer Rice, friends of the couple, in Montauk, N.Y. Christopher Carson, who became a Universal Life minister for the occasion, officiated.
Ms. Katus (left), 33, is a development officer at the Joyful Heart Foundation, an advocacy group that provides support and programs to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse. She graduated from the University of California, San Diego.
She is the daughter of Marilyn Hunt of Denver and Richard Katus of Los Angeles. Her father retired as a machinist from the Sherman Corporation, a former manufacturer of metal components for the aerospace industry, in Inglewood, Calif. He won the bronze medal in the men’s decathlon for Poland in the 1972 Summer Olympics.
She is the stepdaughter of Lynette J. Halverson and Bob Hunt.
Ms. Nelson, 36, is the chief financial officer of GlamSquad in Manhattan, an in-home beauty services company specializing in hair, makeup and nails in the New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington areas. She graduated cum laude from Syracuse. She is the board treasurer of Girls on the Run NYC, a development running program for third-to-eighth grade girls.
She is the daughter of Barbara Nelson and Gordon J. Nelson of Upper Marlboro, Md. Her father retired as the original equipment market manager from General Electric in Plainville, Conn. Her mother retired as a registered nurse from Prince George’s County Public Schools in Bowie, Md.
The couple met in the spring of 2011 on the first day of practice of the coed Brooklyn Kickball league in McCarren Park in Williamsburg.
